Chernobyl 10 years later
In 1986, an explosion ripped through Reactor 4 of the Chernobyl nuclearpowerplant in Ukraine. It was the world's worst nuclearaccident.Tenyears later, radiation remains. It's there in the soil; in the animals; in the people. Footage filmed beyond the contaminated 30-kilometer zone around Chernobyl.
The concrete tomb encasing the reactor hasn't held up. And some believe it's a threat to the world. Forty tons of radioactive dust has accumulated inside. And there's a pressed slab of uranium and concrete that some believe could lead to a chain reaction, causing a more powerful explosion than the original one.
The camera crew arrives to the Chernobyl nuclearpowerplant in Ukraine, where the world's worst nuclearaccident took place in 1986. Views of the territory: a concrete buildings, power plantinside, a sign “Reactor 4” is showing a way to the dangeroussarcophagus, the crew and specialists are putting on protective clothing and respirators, a special device showing a level of a personal radiation while visiting a plantisput inside the pocket. Different views of the nuclear plantterritory, barbed wire on the walls, corridors, rows of special equipment which isno longer in use and is covered with plastic, etc….The crew is carrying radiation control device, close upview of radiation level…Ten years later, radiation remains.
