Black-and-white documentary devoted to Vera Mukhina, Soviet Union's greatest sculptress, an artist of tremendous creative drive and fiery temperament. The video shows detailed views of her most famous work, the stainless steel monumental sculpture 'Rabochy i Kolhoznitsa' ("The Worker and Collective-Farm Girl"). It is 79 feet (24 meters) in height and was first exhibited on top of the Soviet Pavilion at the Paris World's Fair in 1937. Produced in 65 separate laminated stainless steel pieces weighing 75 tonnes, it was located close to the All Russia Exhibition Center until disassembled in 2004. The documentary shows the process of the sculpture creation, some episodes from Muhkina’s life, Soviet chronicle devoted to destruction of historical monuments and Stalin’s funeral. Also recorded is an interview to the sculptress’ grand-daughter.
