The world-famous Russian cellist, composer and conductor Mstislav Rostropovich filmed in Moscow, Paris and Samara.
After 25 years in exile Rostropovich returned to Russia to struggle for democracy. He changed his violin to a gun and joined Muscovites in a militarized clampdown collapse of the USSR in August 1991. “I had no visa and no Russian passport; I just bought a ticket and flue to my beloved homeland”, says Rostropovich. An interview bring us back to the Soviet past, he recalls his extradition from Russia: “The automatic doors of Moscow Airport closed behind me and it reminded me the doors in the crematory. I thought my life was over, but it was not…”
His home in France... Rostropovich and his wife Galina Vishnevskaya 's apartment in Paris filled with antiques. He intends to make the flat home to all his musical archives spread around the world.
Rostropovich in Samara, provincial Russian city to stage a contemporary opera. He believes that Russian province is much more advanced in contemporary music, theatre and opera. Rostropovich was honored with over 130 awards, as he performed at home and around the world for millions of fans, including Britain's Queen Elizabeth and Spain's King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia.
